About MHG Design
MHG Design is comprised of a small, tight-knit group of dedicated craftsmen looking for projects which will allow us to showcase our unique ability to weave new construction into the fabric of an existing structure. By maintaining its best parts and designing around that intrinsic value, we are also doing our part for the environment by keeping materials out of landfill sites. We are committed to recycling with less than 10% of recyclable materials making it into the bin. In recent years we have started to use more environmentally responsible products and construction practices including natural cedar siding, radiant in-floor heating systems with high efficiency condensing boilers, drain water heat recovery units, and higher insulation values.
Our goal is to create the home you’ve always wanted with materials & workmanship that will last for generations.

Mikael Granander, BTech, Architectural Technician
Architectural design and construction have always been my passions. I started my journey by completing a 2 year Architectural Technician Diploma. The knowledge gained from this program lead me to further explore my education by enrolling at Ryerson University. I graduated from the program in 1999 with an emphasis on Design.
MHG Design was started as a landscaping company in 1993. The business stayed active with small projects throughout my schooling and early work experience. While completing the program at Ryerson I worked for G & G Partnership Architects doing survey work at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. During my thesis year I worked in the office of noted Architect Thomas Moore. It was here that I was exposed to a very clean and classical design aesthetic, working on several large Muskoka cottages and prominent Toronto golf clubhouse projects.
After 4 fantastic years with Mr. Moore I moved to CS&P Architects where I spent 4 years focused on the development and production of working drawings and contract documents for numerous educational facilities. As an associate project manager I was also able to be on site to see these projects through to completion. By being involved with most facets of the project I saw the importance of the relationship between the architect and the builder.
While working at both Thomas Moore’s office and CS&P Architects I expanded the scope of projects I was doing through MHG Design to include interior and exterior renovation work. I completed 5 large-scale home renovations by the time MHG Design was incorporated in 2007. In the past 12 years we have designed and built numerous projects ranging from large scale full home renovations to complex, detail oriented custom work. We have built a solid team dedicated to craftsmanship, we are true carpenters who love to build and build things that last. Service remains our focus and priority.
